Christmas and Crystals

It has been snowing for half the day, and there is more in the forecast.

The snowflakes, hurtling through the air in the gusts, or slowly dancing towards the ground when the wind lets up, prompted me to go back to the web site of Masuro Emoto with his photography of frozen water crystals.

If you have never heard of him, you also have never watched the documentary What the Bleep Do We Know. With all due respect, at least put it on your bucket list.

I am not known for nagging people about that must read book, or that must watch film. Just like snowflakes, we are very much alike, yet individual, with a tiny statistical probability that an exact match exists or has existed.

It is pretty relaxing to live in a country where no one is chattering about a "war on Christmas". Hey, the Catholic Church as well as the protestants have a tax collected for them by the German government. The only way to not have it taken right out of your paycheck is to officially leave the church. The government also handles this administrative procedure. You need to go to town hall, fill out a form, and pay a fee for the privilege.

No such tie-in exists for other religions in Germany.

Obviously, you do not have to be Christian to enjoy the overall message of hope and peace or to go all out on the secular trimmings of the event, even if you do it just for the kids.

If you do not feel like traditonal Christmas, make one of Mr. Emoto's pictures your computer desktop background image, get a copy of What the Bleep and some mulled wine, and enjoy.
