The devil wears Prada

A nice suit, not Prada, but a suit. The German Bild Zeitung used the word devil for the alleged neo-nazi murder defendant in the trial that finally started in the southern city of Munich.

Despite "devil" and, a day later, "nazi bride", the populist Bild Zeitung did do the right thing in the run-up to the trial when the court totally botched the allocation of seats for the media.

Germany's highest court intervened when the justices in Munich refused to fix the flaws, and the murder trial against the survivor of the "national socialist underground" cell and a handful of material supporters did start.

There was some wrangling in the media when the "women's magazine" Brigitte was lucky enough to get a seat in the media lottery. Some of the not so bright twitterers made fun of Brigitte's court reporting role, showing there is no shortage of....

Nonetheless, the suit and some smiles in court showed that Ms. Z. is not a monster but a human being. This realization made some people uneasy, and Bild's use of the emotional trigger words more than proves our point.

The K-landnews wouldn't be the whacky little blog it is, if we did not have a true close to home example.

A friend of the news was selling newspapers in the U.S. and was invited into the house of a very nice man for a chat and a cup of tea. Eventually, our friend parted with the host and continued his way down the street.
Not all that long afterwards, the friend saw a photo of that host in the news. The friendly man was serial killer and designated monster Jeffrey Dahmer.
