Views of a political butterfly.
That 15 ft by 10 ft big screen with nothing but the face of the new king is a human under the proverbial microscope.
Did the PR spin doctors not notice or did they sign off on it?
You can see the emotions, the weight of the ceremony, that touch of apprehension, that less than 150% sure of himself person. The human face not only is nice but also shows why we should not have monarchs: no one should be growing up under the weight of all of it.
The Dutch have a new king, we'll tell you more about the person in another post, and we looked across the channel to his relatives for a different monarchy.
If you were asked to give the approximate geographic location and the religion of a king or queen whose title included "by the Grace of God" and "Defender of the Faith" -- would your answer be the United Kingdom, or would you rather go for some middle eastern Islamic country?
Bu, bu, bu, but, sputter the defenders of monarchs, it is only ceremonial.
To which the K-Landnews religious correspondent responds: then why don't you change it to reflect the country's true state? It'd save a bunch of paper and ink, too.
It is a minor miracle that, for example, the Muslim citizens of the United Kingdom are not a radicalized revolutionary bunch. Or that the German Muslims are friendly folks taking the state's role as tax collector for the Christian Churches in stride.
If you look at any system, you will see so many things that "don't really matter" - unless someone calls for a change. Whether it be closing a train station with 10 passengers a year or getting rid of some stupid scribble on a coin.
Our British friends have spent hours of talk time on a former prime minister, instead of questioning why the properties of people who die in Cornwall without a will or relatives go straight to Prince Charles. Sure, there is the great pacifier that monarchs, dictators and super capitalists call "charity".
Then the population wonders for a 30 second goldfish moment when the recipients, "by the grace of god", interpret it as charity begins at home.
That K-Landnews blogster who likes to end a post with some blah about the march into the new dark age is plain wrong. It doesn't need a march, all it needs is one small step.
