It weirded us out when Eenie the cat watched Dexter with gusto.
That's wrong, was the initial reaction, followed by "but why?"
The cat's TV preferences are what they are, if anything is wrong at all, shouldn't it be the TV show about a psychopath who goes around killing people according to a code? The short version of the code goes something like "Kill only bad guys whom the police cannot get to."
Vigilante justice based on a medical condition we lay people don't understand well, add a bit of old eye for an eye, and set the whole thing in Miami, FL, because nothing in this city is too unbelievable.
Who sponsors the show anyway?
Car makers have a hand, not as pronounced as in "Bones", where you get a free one minute training in the use of the GPS of the Toyota Prius, or "Burn Notice", where luxury cars go to die.
Surgical kits feature prominently in Dexter but other than real surgeons, who would know the difference.
The obvious sponsor must be the makers of cling film. Over the many seasons of Dexter, the production must have used miles and miles of cling film, probably enough to wrap a small country twice.
The Dexter sponsoring or product placement puzzle is the only occasion in which TheEditor missed the absence of commercials. Are there regular commercials on Dexter, and which companies place ads? Do ketchup bottles squirt red goo, are happy meals hawked on the show?
What happened during the presidential elections? Did viewers get get to enjoy a "Mitt Romney the job killer" campaign spot right before Dexter dispatched yet another person?
Or did the audience have to make the mental switch from a job killing Obama to a naked criminal wrapped in cling film?
Eenie, the cowboy cat, has not asked these questions as far as we can tell. We took the cue and put them aside.
There are only a few more episodes of Dexter left anyhow, so the specific questions will be moot soon.
