With or without Mr. Fischer, former foreign secretary of Germany.
Do not RSVP.
Mr. Fischer used to be kind of a radical left bad ass in the old days when Germany still had a radical left. One of their slogans was 'do not trust anybody over 30', and these days this might apply to Mr. Fischer.
What this is about:
In 1976, at a demonstration in Frankfurt, a policeman was badly injured by a Molotov cocktail. Mr. Fischer has been asked repeatedly about his involvement in the planning of the activities of the group he belonged to, the group that allegedly threw the incendiary device.
His line was that he had not supported the use of Molotov cocktails and had not been involved in the incident.
He went on to become the German foreign secretary a few decades later.
The issue now:
A well respected journalist has come out and said that Mr. Fischer was involved in the planning and that he expressed support for the use of the fiery cocktail.
The journalist reportedly invoked a "code of silence" between members of the group he and Mr. Fischer belonged to as the reason for keeping mum until now.
Two things come to mind, teflon and the Catholics. The first for its non-stick properties, the second for the policy of waiting until someone is safely dead before pursuing sainthood.
